Artist's Comments

Photographed with a polarised light source, and polarising filter. No photoshopping here, what you see in the image was what you could see in the viewfinder.

taken from wikipedia "Birefringence, or double refraction, is the decomposition of a ray of light into two rays (the ordinary ray and the extraordinary ray) when it passes through certain types of material, such as calcite crystals or boron nitride, depending on the polarization of the light. This effect can occur only if the structure of the material is anisotropic (directionally dependent). If the material has a single axis of anisotropy or optical axis, (i.e. it is uniaxial) birefringence can be formalized by assigning two different refractive indices to the material for different polarizations. Wonderful shot! Great work :)
:iconinfin1tyez:
what you mean `a polarised light source`?
Birefringence looks really nice ;)
im gonna try it in the future.. but i need a tip how to do it.

polarised light source, is a flash, or lamp etc that passes through a polariser... if you dont have one, try using a computer LCD monitor and set the screen to white.. change the background on windows or something to all white, and put your monitor contrast and brightness right up. An LCD gives off polarised light. then you need something plastic (have to experiment with things that might look cool, try a CD case) and you also need a polarising filter on your lens.

good luck

ow.. maybe i'll try :)
thx for an advice :)
